A Ril Lake cottage has been destroyed by fire. The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department received a report of a structure fire on South Ril Lake Rd. shortly before 1pm.
Upon arrival, crews from Baysville Station 40 reported that the structure was fully involved. ‎Crews from Huntsville Station 1 were called in to assist.
The occupants saw smoke coming from the front of the cottage and discovered heavy fire in a sun room attached to the building. Both occupants were able to escape through the rear exit and suffered some minor smoke inhalation. They were checked out on scene by Muskoka EMS and did not require transport to hospital.
The fire is believed to have started at the front of the building and is accidental possibly started from woodstove ashes left outside.
Crews remain on scene ‎putting out hot spots. The building appears to be a total loss.
