Lake of Bays’ mayor calls Muskoka airport expansion a bad investment

Lake of Bays Mayor Bob Young isn’t happy with the District’s decision to expand Muskoka Airport. District councillor and Bracebridge Mayor Graydon Smith has said there will be funding opportunities to make this expansion happens. But Young says the development is going to cost over $2-million. He says the District shouldn’t be spending money just because there’s a grant available.

The District will offer businesses opportunities on seven acres of land. Young says it won’t pay off.

Young was one of nine District councillors to vote against the expansion. He says the people paying most of the cost for the airport are the townships.

Young says until the District can address the improper allocation of cost, things like the airport expansion become distorted and difficult to support. He says he hopes it’s a great investment for Bracebridge and Gravenhurst, but is not convinced it’s a good investment for the rest of Muskoka.
