Almost 100 cars involved in collisions near Barrie

Police across the province are frustrated that drivers are not listening to warning when it comes to winter driving.

The OPP responded to numerous multi-vehicle collisions yesterday along Ontario highways including a wreck involving close to 100 cars on Highway 400 in Barrie.

OPP Commissioner Brad Blair says police are frustrated because they issued a warning just a week ago for drivers to change their habits while driving in winter weather and yesterday’s storm wasn’t a surprise, it was forecasted giving motorists plenty of time to change their travel plans.

Provincial police hope education efforts and public appeals will lead to immediate changes in driver behaviour and prevent emergency responders from being called to countless collision scenes.

Motorists are encouraged to visit the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) website for traveller’s information such as winter road conditions, construction reports, road closures, traffic reports, traffic cameras and interactive mapping.
