Dara Howell's Olympic Celebration kicks off tonight

Today is the day when we officially welcome home Huntsville’s first Olympic gold medalist Dara Howell. The Town and the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce are hosting a celebration at RiverMillPark. Mayor Claude Doughty says this event is something residents have asked for.

The Town will be closing roads in and around the park including Queen and King Streets. The parking lot at the park will also be closed. However, Doughty says there will be shuttle services at the Huntsville Place Mall and the LCBO/Staples plaza.

Specialized and accessible transit can be arranged by calling 705-788-8118 and Campbell Bus Lines at 705-789-1975.

The event starts at 5:00pm and features a live performance by Juno-nominated band Down with Webster, food vendors, surprise guests and words from Howell herself. Doughty says it’s going to be an amazing event.

Doughty wouldn’t say more about the surprises, except for one clue – Queen.
