Trees Ontario offers subsidies to land owners who want to plant trees

Residents in Huntsville and the surround areas looking to plant trees on their property don’t have to pay for the full cost. Trees Ontario is offering subsidies for land owners looking to plant two and half acres or more. It’s through the provincial government’s 50 Million Tree Program, which pledges to plant 50 million trees by 2025. It was the largest pledge for the United Nations’ Billion Tree Campaign. Glenn McLeod is a Field Advisor for Central-East Ontario and he explains how the program works.

McLeod says people who are eligible sign a 15 year management agreement and a local agency does the planting for you. He says planting trees on your property can have a number of benefits.

He also explains the reason why the provincial government made the pledge.
