Huntsville has a new Flag Protocol Policy

Huntsville council has made changes to their Flag Protocol Policy. The policy outlines the details of when a flag can be lowered at half mast. Mayor Claude Doughty says the protocol only relevant to the flag on top of town hall but now includes other locations across town.

Doughy says it’s now an expansive policy. He says it also includes the wishes of the family.

The issue of the flag policy came up after criticisms over the lowering of the flag to commemorate the recent attack in Ottawa. The flag at town hall was not lowered a couple of days after the shootings on October 22nd. Doughty says the job of a mayor is to follow the policies that are set out. He says he realizes sometimes they can be cumbersome.

Doughy says they went through the proper process as quickly as possible and now it’s in place.
