Town of Huntsville lowers flag

Huntsville has lowered their flag at Town Hall to commemorate Corporal Nathan Cirillo and the brutal attack on Parliament Hill. Residents had questioned why it wasn’t lowered sooner. Mayor Claude Doughty says there is a policy in place that sets out specific circumstances when the flag is to be lowered. The policy also allows the mayor to make the decision in other circumstances. Wednesday’s tragedy in Ottawa is not under usual policy. However, Doughty says after input from members of council, residents and others, he decided that it was appropriate to lower the flag. Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement was asked his opinion on the matter and his opinion was to lower it.
