South Muskoka Shield get ready for home opener against Almaguin Spartans
The South Muskoka Shield are ready for this weekend’s home opener against new league team the Almaguin Spartans. The game starts at 8pm at the newly named Greame Murray Arena in Gravenhurst. The Shield start the home season with a flawless 2-0 record of on the road wins against the Niagara Whalers and their nemesis the Bradford Rattlers. On Sunday the team will take on the Toronto Ice Jets.
Head Coach and GM Frank Demasi and Assistant coach Anthony Gambacorta have been preparing the team by putting them through a boot camp, dry-land training and helping them assimilate into the area by participating in community events such as a sledge hockey demonstration during the re-naming ceremony at the arena. The team will be giving back to the community by participating in community events and helping out where needed.
The young men will be helping to serve a spaghetti dinner in the Terry Fox room at the Graeme Murray Arena right after Sunday night’s game. The cost for the dinner is $10 each or $20 for a family of 4. The cost for season ticket holders or children is $5. Special for seniors only 65 or older; game admission and dinner package $10.
