Paddle for Fairvern still accepting registrations for Saturday's event

The second annual Paddle for Fairvern in Huntsville is just days away. Funds raised at this 15km paddle will go towards revamping the nursing home. Event chair Rob Laver says the Ministry of Health has mandated nursing homes across Ontario to redevelop and meet the current design standards.

Paddlers will ride from Lake Vernon to Penn Lake on Saturday. You don’t need equipment either to participate. Laver says they have all the equipment you need.

It isn’t too late to start collecting pledges. You have to pledge at least $50 in order to participate in the event. Laver says they’ve acquired a great prize for the person that makes the most pledges.

Paddlers will meet at Hidden Valley Ski Chalet on Saturday and then be transported through a shuttle bus to Hutcheson Beach where the ride starts. The first bus leaves the chalet at 8:30am with the last one leaving at 10am. Over $25,000 was raised last year.
