More than $1.4 million announced to enhance broadband service in Muskoka

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement dropped some big money in the riding today to help enhance broadband services. In Huntsville he announced more than $1.4 million which will also help small businesses increase productivity and competitiveness. Here’s the breakdown: FedNor funding of $892,903 will support the ongoing operations of the Muskoka Community Network for a three-year period. They will also receive $531,500 to help small and medium sized businesses incorporate e-business technologies into their operations through its Broadband E-business and marketing program. the total also includes fundng for a youth intern. The investment is expected to create more than 20 new jobs and help 60 businesses in the area adopt new ICT tools and web-based applications. As MCN deploys its initiatives its expected the new and enhanced services will support 1000 businesses, 7200 permanent dwellings and 52,000 people. clement says the Federal government proudly supports broadband solutions that help level the economic playing field for Northern Ontario.
