It took days before anyone knew how many SIN numbers were affected by 'Heartbleed'

Canada’s Revenue Agency knew 900 SIN numbers had been stolen days before they told the public. Thieves got the information by taking advantage of the heartbleed security software bug. According to the Privacy Commissioner’s Office they were told about the loss Friday, when taxpayers were only warned yesterday. The news has lead to backlash against the Canada Revenue Agency from opposition parties calling for the government to be more open with its people. Anyone who’s been affected by the thefts will be sent a letter and given credit protection.
