Highway 93 renamed in memory of Sarah Burke

Premier Kathleen Wynne has announced Highway 93 will be renamed in honor of Sarah Burke’s memory. The Sarah Burke Memorial Highway runs for 24km through Simcoe County where Burke was born and raised.

Burke was a trailblazer and an inspiration to young athletes. She lobbied successfully to have the Winter X Games include women in freestyle events on an equal standing with men. Burke also went on to win four gold medals at the X-Games and successfully lobbied the International Olympic Committee to include the women’s half-pipe event in the Winter Olympics starting at Sochi in 2014.

The Moose spoke with Ontario’s Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Glen Murray about the highway renaming.
