Pond hockey happening in Cottage Country

Two of the biggest pond hockey championships in Canada are happening in the near future across our region.

In Gravenhurst, On the Pond Canada has joined forces with ex-NHL ‘er Kris King to host the Original Pond Hockey Classic: North American Cup. It happens February 7th to the 9th at the Gravenhurst Wharf and will be a four-on-four format with five different divisions.

To the east, Haliburton County is hosting the Canadian National Pond Hockey Championships starting Friday January 24th. It’s the largest event of its kind in Canada taking place over two weekends at Head Lake.

Thirty rinks are being built for the event, 10 of which will be staged to play games under the lights on Friday and Saturday nights. This year the championships are hosting teams from all over Ontario, Quebec and Newfoundland.
