More and more cities are starting to use beet juice as an effective way to tackle ice. In Toronto, city crews have been using beet juice for the past five years as temperatures dip below minus 20 degrees.
According to many experts, the combination of beet juice and traditional rock salt is a fairly recent, yet an effective way of melting ice at temperatures of minus 30 and below. So what do you think of beet juice being used for our roads?

Experts say the cost of beet juice is typically a little more than traditional rock salt, however municipal trucks use less beet juice than salt. In Niagara Falls, a cost of nearly $2 per lane kilometer is saved leading to $1,600 a year in savings.
