One Bracebridge COVID-19 removed by Health Unit

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) has moved a COVID-19 case that was originally in Bracebridge to another Health Unit.

No new cases were reported Monday by SMDHU, but two recoveries were added. That puts the active case count at nine locally.

A total of 256 cases of the novel coronavirus have been reported in Muskoka and 244 people have recovered.

The Health Unit has now vaccinated 68,627 residents in its medical region after getting the shot in the arm of another 1,648 people Sunday.

SMDHU has now reported over 1,000 variants of concern (VOC) cases after adding 120 in the last 24 hours. According to the Health Unit, there are 223 active cases of VOCs.

The total number of VOC cases includes 290 of B.1.1.7 – the variant originally from the UK, eight of P.1 – originating in Brazil, and one of B.1.351 – originating from South Africa. There are still 707 cases that have tested positive for a VOC, but need a second test before it can be determined which variant they are.
