OPP and OFSC join together to promote snowmobiling safety

January 18th to 26th is Snowmobile Safety Week and police are helping the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) get the word out. Police say there needs to be a change in behavior in some segments of the snowmobile community because speed was a factor in half of the 18 snowmobile fatalities that occurred last season. The other half were drinking related. So far this season, there’ve been five fatal snowmobile collisions that have taken the lives of six people. Speed was a factor in all five incidents, four happened on roads and none happened on OFSC trails. Frigid temps, unstable terrain, lakes and rivers and reduced visibility help make things unsafe. The OPP and OFSC ask you to get on board with their efforts to make snowmobiling safe across Ontario.
