Suspect sought after fleeing RIDE stop

HUNTSVILLE, ON-The Huntsville OPP is asking for the publics’ help in finding a suspect who fled from a RIDE stop.

On August 15th, just before 1:00 a.m., the police were conducting stops on Highway 11 by the Highway 592 off-ramp near Novar when they spotted a white Toyota Corolla approach at slow speeds.

During the initial contact, the man failed to produce any I.D., and officers suspected the driver to be under the influence.

The second attending officer on the passenger side said the driver was reaching under the seat and then demanded the suspect turn off the vehicle while opening the passenger door.

The driver puts the vehicle and drive and fled the scene, forcing the officer to fall into the car, but at one point the driver maneuvers the vehicle, causing it to crash into the concrete barrier.

The accused gets out of the vehicle, running over the bridge and onto the Southbound lanes of Highway 11, leaving the injured officer partially in the car.

Despite the Emergency Response Team, Central Region OPP and the North East Region Canine Unit assisting in finding the driver, they were not able to locate him.

If you have seen a man, about 5’10 to 6’ tall, thin build, black with shorter dark cornrow style hair, and wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, contact the OPP at 705-789-5551 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
