Possible Blue-Green Algae bloom discovered in Three Mile Lake

If you’re living or cottaging on Three Mile Lake (near Windermere)  you may want to avoid swimming.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit recently discovered algae bloom that may be blue-green algae in the Muskoka Lakes Township body of water. The bloom needs to be tested for confirmation, but health officials are advising locals on the lake to avoid swimming or using the water for cooking, washing or bathing for now.

Blue-green algae toxins can cause rashes and stomach problems like vomiting and diarrhea if they’re swallowed. Boiling the water will not destroy the toxins. The MyMuskokaNow Newsroom will keep you updated on the algae testing when more details come in from the health unit.
