Port Sydney tree could become a piece of Huntsville heritage

A very special tree in Port Sydney is getting attention from Huntsville officials.

A Huntsville municipal committee is considering endorsing an application for heritage status for the Red Maple that can be found along the edge of the Muskoka River on Indian Landing. Officials say the old maple has caught the eye and camera of many tourists in the area and is featured in a Youtube video that has been viewed over 85,000 times.

The application would be sent to Forests Ontario for consideration. If approved for heritage status, the organization would install a special plaque on the tree and add it to their online registry.

The Municipal Heritage Committee will be reviewing this application on Monday before making a decision to endorse it.
