Tuesday’s rain in Huntsville broke a 132-year record

A 132-year rainfall record in Huntsville has been broken. Environment Canada’s closest weather monitoring site to Huntsville is in Beatrice, ON and officials say 46 mm of rain was recorded on Tuesday. Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says that broke a record from the 18oo’s.

Coulson says Huntsville officials are reporting 75 to 100 mm fell in town on Tuesday, so it’s possible even more rain fell than what has been put on the official record.

He says the Muskoka summer has been an average one in terms of temperatures. But, he says there hasn’t been too many overly hot days which is making the summer feel cooler than it is.

Coulson says that trend of average temperatures is going to continue in the fall.

Coulson says Muskoka gets around 110 to 115 mm of rain per month in both September and October.

As Labour Day approaches, Coulson says summer is likely to end off on a sunny note. A big area of high pressure is bringing lots of sunshine in the next week or so, with temperatures going up next week. He says if you’re sick of all of the rain, it looks like a welcome break is in the forecast.
