Haliburton health unit reports one person has tested positive for West Nile in the area

A person has tested positive for West Nile virus somewhere in or near Haliburton.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit says it can’t release details on where this person lives. The health unit covers Kawartha Lakes, as well as the counties of Haliburton and Northumberland.
This is the first human case of West Nile in the health unit’s region in five years. The infection can be spread to humans through mosquito bites. The health unit says most people who get West Nile won’t get symptoms, but if they do, they are flu-like.
A mosquito breeding pool in Haliburton tested positive for the virus on July 6th. If you’re outside officials say you should wear long sleeves and use deet bug spray to avoid getting bitten.
