Gravenhurst fire officials say a life was saved thanks to a working smoke alarm

A smoke alarm is credited with saving the life of a sleeping woman in Muskoka.
Gravenhurst fire officials say the woman was woken up by a smoke alarm around 4:00am after a fire had broken out in her home on Highway 11. She had just enough time to escape with her two pets before the fire spread into the bedroom. Fire Chief Larry Brassard says crews were able to contain the blaze before it got out of control. The damage to the home is sitting around $75,000 and Brassard says the cause is not suspicious but is still being investigated.
