Lake of Bays looking for input to assess tornado damage

Lake of Bays is working with the province to assess tornado damage. The township has opened an online survey for residents to fill out in order to collect information on the impact of the three tornadoes that touched down, especially on permanent homes.

Ontario will then use the information to decide if a Provincial Disaster Assessment Team should be sent out to further assess the damage.

Environment Canada confirmed three tornadoes touched down in the area on August 4th. Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the first twister touched down near Old Muskoka Road.

Kimbell says the second twister was stronger than the first.

Then, a third tornado landed in Lake of Bays. Kimbell says it was classified as an EF1, and tracked from Pell Lake to Dotty Lake. Kimbell says this type of severe weather isn’t really that unusual for this time of year in Muskoka.

The entire district was put under a tornado warning for over an hour during the afternoon as the severe thunderstorm rolled through. There was a lot of damage reported in these areas, but no one was hurt.
