Muskokans interested in local passenger rail service invited out to a town hall meeting

Muskokans that want to see passenger rail service return can show their support at an upcoming town hall meeting. The Committee Promoting Muskoka Rail Travel (CPMRT) is hosting the meeting to discuss the opportunities that passenger rail service would bring to the district, and to show the public how they can help make it happen.

CPMRT Co-chair, Lucille Frith, says passenger rail service was cancelled in Muskoka back in 2012, and to bring it back means putting the pressure on the Ministry of Transportation. She says the MTO is working on a transportation study, which is nearing completion.

Frith says the MTO’s report will be based on Northern Ontario, which doesn’t include Muskoka. But, she says whatever is done for transportation in the north, whether it be highways or trains, will affect Muskoka as the roads and tracks come from Toronto through the district.

So, she says Muskokans need to have a voice.

On top of attending the town hall meeting, Frith says Muskokans should also fill out an online survey. The meeting is happening on Wednesday, August 23 at 7:00pm at the District Municipality of Muskoka’s Council Chambers at 70 Pine Street in Bracebridge.
