The need for rent supplement is rising in Muskoka

As the need for rent supplement rises, Muskoka officials are trying to keep up.

According to District of Muskoka staff, over 100 people needing help with rent costs in Muskoka have been put on a wait-list for the Muskoka Affordable Housing Initiative Program. Officials say the program needs another $205,000 to keep up with the need. The district has already budgeted about $900,000 towards this program and this extra funding would push it over $1 million. Staff expects there to be more than 300 people on the program by the end of the year.

The request for extra funding needs to be approved by district council and will be brought up at the meeting in August.
