Muskokans say no to proposed Hydro One rate increase during public meeting

Residents in Muskoka are sending a clear message about a possible hydro rate hike.

On Thursday night, members of the public shot down a proposed annual rate increase to $141 over five years by Hydro One to the Ontario Energy Board.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MPP Norm Miller was at the meeting to add his own input.

Hydro One officials say the money will be used to update aging infrastructure across the province.

Hydro officials say the company will need to spend nearly $600 million on replacing over 70,000 hydro poles this year.

OEB officials say the next step is to review all input from the public and Hydro One and come up with a decision to allow or deny the rate hike in early 2018.
