75 years of Little Norway is celebrated in a special ceremony at Muskoka Airport

Officials in Muskoka are celebrating a friendship that has crossed an ocean for 75 years.

On Wednesday, Norwegian Consulate General Marianne Koritzinsky paid a special visit to the Little Norway Memorial Air Terminal at the Muskoka Airport.

Koritzinksy says the relationship between Muskoka and Norway that was built during World War II is an important bond that needs to be celebrated.

District of Muskoka Council Chair John Klinck says remembering the history of what brought Canadians and Norwegians together 75 years ago is important for the younger generation.

During her visit, Koritzinksy was presented with a special plaque from the District of Muskoka to commemorate the 75-year friendship.

The local airport was named Little Norway after the Norwegian pilots training in Canada were moved from Toronto to Muskoka in 1942.
