Hamlet Bridge will be closed during the day starting mid-July

Temporary repair work on the Hamlet Bridge is forcing some closures in mid July. The bridge, which is on Severn River between Severn and Gravenhurst, will be closed between 9:00am and 3:00pm from July 10th to the 21st.

Inspections were done over the winter to the fixed and swing portions of the bridge, which was the first stage of a larger project. The bridge will either need a large repair or to be completely replaced, but no details on the plan are being released. The work being done in July is just so it can stay open for the time being before the bigger project begins.

A three ton load limit is in place, and a new height restriction of two metres will be added. The bridge was built in 1905, and the work is being paid for by Parks Canada.
