Fallen OPP officer is remembered over 50 years after his death on Highway 11

A bridge in Severn Township is holding the memory of a fallen OPP officer.

On Friday, Orillia OPP officially dedicated the Brady Drive Bridge over Highway 11 to Officer Ted E. R. Wickens.

The 31-year-old Wickens was killed in 1960 after a wheel came off of a cement truck on Highway 11 and hit the cruiser he was driving.

OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes and Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca were both at the dedication ceremony to honour the fallen officer.

Del Duca says Wickens was a man who was dedicated to his community and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The province has now dedicated 72 bridges across the province to fallen police officers.
