Muskoka Hornets remembering a board member who died suddenly on the weekend

A board member of the Muskoka HornetsĀ has died. Thirty-nine-year-old Mike Holm, from Gravenhurst, died of a heart attack late Friday night. The Muskoka Hornets say Holm was a cornerstone of the baseball organization; working as aĀ board member, coach, equipment manager, house league coordinator in Huntsville and Gravenhurst, and tournament convener.

Peter Haynes, president of the association, says Holm was on the board for the last five years and played a key role in growing the organization.

Haynes says he did a lotĀ for the league, and this is a tragic loss not only for the Hornets, but for baseball in Ontario.

He says around 750 kids are playing in that tournament, and they will all get souvenir t-shirts with Holm on it. All of the teams in the program are also going to wear patches with his number, 25, on them.

Family members are going to receive friends atĀ the Reynolds Funeral Home onĀ Thursday, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, and then again from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. There will also be a celebration of life at theĀ Turner Chapel at Reynolds Funeral Home on Friday at 1:00pm. Hornets players are asked to wear their baseball uniforms.

There is anĀ online fundraising campaignĀ to support Holm’s wife and two kids, aged 11 and 8.
