YWCA Muskoka officials celebrate a great turnout for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

More Muskoka men are walking in high heels to put a stop to violence against women.

On Sunday, over 100 men came together in Bracebridge to take part in the YWCA Muskoka’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.

Organizer Christine Cousins says this annual event helps bring in funds for vital YWCA programs.

Anyone who signs up to take part in Walk a Mile is asked to collect donations for the YWCA before the event.

The event was moved to Annie Williams Park this year to run alongside the annual Picnic In the Park BBQ.

Culotta says bringing the two events together definitely helped bring in more walkers as they only had just over 50 men involved last year at Memorial Park in Bracebridge.

Just before the walk started, Mayor Graydon Smith asked for a moment of silence to remember a woman murdered in Bracebridge just days ago.

A 67-year-old Bracebridge man has been charged in that murder and he will be in court on Tuesday.
