Bracebridge invests $3 million into new waterfront property

Bracebridge is making a $3 million investment in a new piece of waterfront property.

This morning, Mayor Graydon Smith announced the town had purchased the 4.12 acres of land owned by Ted Minty and Dennis Doidge of the Bracebridge Timber Mart.

He says the town wants to redevelop the property into a public space.

The town doesn’t have development plan put together for the area yet, but Smith says they will be looking for public input before making any final decisions.

President of the Bracebridge BIA Lindsay Alexander says, speaking on behalf of the downtown businesses, she feels this is a great move by the town.

Town officials say the redevelopment process for this new waterfront property could take a few years, so Minty and Doidge will be leasing the land and keeping Timber Mart in business for the next two to five years.

The redevelopment plan for this property will be included in the process to update the Downtown Master Plan in 2018.
