Clement applauds feds for recent decision on firearm regulations

MP Tony Clement is happy with the government’s decision to delay the introduction of firearm marking regulations. The coming into force date of these new regulations has been deferred to December 1st, 2018. They were slated to come into effect June 1st.

These regulations are Canada’s interpretation of a UN mandate on firearms. They would require specific identifiable markers to be stamped or engraved on each gun made in or imported to Canada. That would include the word Canada or the letters CA, as well as the name of the manufacturer and the firearm’s serial number.

The goal of these regulations is to keep shipments of small arms from getting into war zones around the world.

Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement says that this decision to defer the date is good for law abiding gun owners. He says the gun marking regulations aren’t really necessary, and have unintended consequences for gun owners in Canada.

This is not the first time the government has deferred this regulation. Clement says the  Government under Stephen Harper would defer this anytime the coming into force date was set to come into effect.
