The OPP is reminding Muskokans to be safe while having fun during the unofficial start to summer. Police will be out on the roads over the long weekend to make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt, while watching for distracted and aggressive driving.

The OPP will also be watching for impaired drivers and says if you’re out at a party, plan a way to get home that doesn’t include drinking and driving.

Once you get to the cottage, the OPP says make sure you have your boating license with you before going out on the water. There should be a lifejacket in the boat for everyone on board, and drinking and driving a boat has the same consequences as driving a car impaired.

The police also says ATVers need to make sure their vehicles are in working order before hitting the trails, and to always wear a helmet while riding. Plan your route, and let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll be back.
