Health officials will be testing more ticks in Muskoka this year for Lyme disease

As we move into tick season the local health unit is going to be trolling fields in Muskoka for the little blood suckers.
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit will be running an active tick surveillance program this year, looking for ticks that might have Lyme disease.
According to health officials over the past two years, four black-legged ticks that were caught in the area tested positive for Lyme disease.
The unit will be collecting black-legged ticks in spring and fall that will then be tested for the disease.
Between 2015 and 2016, 140 ticks were given to the health unit by residents that had found them in the region.
