Work to replace the master’s cabin on the Main Street Bridge gets underway this week

Keep an eye on the construction schedule this week if you’re planning to head downtown. Huntsville is doing some work on the Main Street Bridge, to install the new Swing Bridge Master’s Cabin.

The sidewalk on the north side of the bridge will be closed for a short time starting at 9:00am this morning, and the bridge itself will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday starting at 11:00am each day.

Huntsville High School students made the new master’s cabin, which has an authentic look but with upgrades to materials and design. A time capsule is also going to be included, with plans to open it in 2067 – 50 years from now. Town plans, history books, buttons from different events, and photos will all be included in the time capsule.

The full construction schedule is below:

  • April 24th: The sidewalk on the north side will be closed for a short time
  • April 26th: Main Street Bridge will be closed for a short time starting at 11:00am, as the old cabin will be removed. The sidewalk will be closed for most of the day
  • April 27th: Main Street Bridge will be closed, starting at 11:00am for the new cabin to be installed. The sidewalk will be closed for most of the day
