A Honey Harbour catholic school will be closing this summer

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board is shutting down its catholic school in Honey Harbour.
Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Elementary School will be closed by June 30th.
Students that are currently attending the school will be sent to St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School in Victoria Harbour for the new school year in the fall.
Director of Education Brian Beal says the decision is a difficult one because of the lives it affects in Honey Harbour.
On Wednesday, the board of trustees made the decision to close the school based on the declining student enrollment numbers.
According to Beal there are only 14 students attending the school currently and there are no projections for growth in the near future.
The school has been offering catholic education since it was opened in 1946.
Honey Harbour Public School with the Trillium Lakelands District School Board is also in danger of closing its doors.
TLDSB staff have suggested the school be closed due to its own issues with enrollment numbers and the board of trustees is expected to make a decision soon on the fate of this facility.
