Huntsville council donates land for affordable housing

Huntsville council is donating some land to spur affordable housing construction. It’s at Sabrina Park Drive, and council voted to donate the land in this week’s meeting.

The next step will be sending out an RFP to see if there are any builders interested in using the land. Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison says there needs to be a mix of housing, to make sure there’s no stigma for those living in the affordable homes. He says anyone who wants to build will have to show how council how they’ll build a community in the area.

The District of Muskoka is also lending a hand, by dealing with programs that encourage affordable housing, like potential rent supplements.
