The plant has a few ways to push out the native species and claim land for itself including a quick and dense growth cycle and releasing chemicals into the soil that are harmful to other plants.
Georgian Bay Forever is one of a few groups in the area funding research on ways to control the spread and eventually rid the wetlands of Cottage Country of this invasive plant species.
