Operational budget proposal sets a total 5.5 per cent increase in Gravenhurst taxes

Taxes are going up in Gravenhurst, but the increase may not hit your pocket as hard as other municipalities.
Town staff tabled the proposed operational portion of the 2017 budget this week and coupled with the capital budget it could push taxes up about $22 on a $100,000 home.
Treasurer Val Sequeira says between capital and operational the total increase is 5.5 per cent.
Sequeira has also estimated home owners in town will see a total increase of 2.4 per cent taking into account district and education taxes.
He says homes in rural areas of Gravenhurst will only see an increase of 2.2 per cent on your taxes total.
Council will be meeting over the next few weeks to review various portions of this budget:
  • February 27th, Town Departments
  • March 1st, Town Departments
  • March 2nd, Community Partners

All meetings will start at 2:00pm in council chambers.
