TLDSB: Current weather, road conditions, and weather forecasts all play a factor in school bus cancellations

TLDSB is shedding some light on how the decision is made to cancel school buses. Trillium Lakelands District School Board Communications Officer, Laura Blaker, says the decision is made based on a number of factors. Inclement weather, current road conditions, and weather forecasts all go into the decision.

Blaker says student safety is the board’s guiding principle in the decision. The TLDSB Superintendent of Business makes the call, in consultation with the Transportation Supervisor, and local bus operators.

Blaker says a decision is usually made by about 6:30am in order to get the word out.

When it comes to exams, Blaker says the board has a process in place in case there are snow days on exam dates. If that happens, the schedule is moved forward by one day.
