Throughout the Civic Day long weekend, the Orillia OPP and Rama Police will be setting up a focused patrol on Lake Couchiching.
The OPP says the emphasis will be on safe boating around Chiefs Island.
Over the past few years, a large number of boaters have made their way to the lake, creating a party atmosphere, which means an increase of alcohol consumption and provincial offences.
Police are reminding you it’s important to wear life jackets and personal flotation devices, and make sure they are the right size and in good condition, along with carrying all required safety equipment.
Make sure to check the weather before heading out on a boat, and make sure you know about any local hazards.
You are also being asked to make sure you and everyone on your boat knows about safety rules.
