Gravenhurst fire officials getting residents wildfire prepared

Recent events in Alberta have proven wildfires are extremely unpredictable and dangerous, so Gravenhurst wants to prepare residents for the possibility of a wildfire sparking up closer to home.

On Saturday, Gravenhurst Fire Department officials will hold an open house at the Ryde Fire Station.

The open house is in conjunction with Wildfire Community Preparedness Day.

Fire officials will be providing details on the FireSmart fire prevention program and hazard assessment on private properties.

Officials will also be cleaning up deadfall and brush around the station and sending it to the Gravenhurst landfill to promote this type of activity on a local level.

The open house runs from 11:00am to 2:00pm.
