Students face simulated poverty situations in Muskoka

Students from across the region will come together to learn what it’s like to live in poverty.

On Wednesday students from Muskoka, Parry Sound and Orillia will travel to the Muskoka campus of Nipissing University.

Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board Trustee Carol Corriveau-Truchon says students will be given three profiles of real people who have experienced poverty in Muskoka.

She says students will be presented challenges based on everyday situations these people have faced.

There will be volunteers playing roles of officials with various services and organizations available in Muskoka.

Students will use what they have learned from these experiences to build strategies in their own schools to help combat poverty.
