Almaguin Highlands Student Appointed to Education Minister’s Student Advisory Council

It was a big day for one Almaguin Highlands Secondary School student.

The Near North District School Board announced that  Nathan Jeffery, has been selected to serve as a member of the Ontario Minister of Education’s Student Advisory Council.

The Council is made up of approximately 60 students whom meet directly with the Minister of Education twice per year.

Nathan will serve a one-year term to represent rural and northern students and to provide insight and voice from the student perspective in education.

“I am very excited to take on this opportunity with the Ministry of Education. Being an advocate and change maker for the Ontario education system is an absolute privilege, and one that will provide me with great experience,” said Nathan.

Nathan, a competitive runner and Nordic skier, has been very active in student government at the school and district level. He is currently serving as the Student Trustee for the Near North Board District School Board.
