The Town of Huntsville is writing a letter to Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) against single-siting services. Mayor Scott Aitchison says single-siting services like surgeries would seriously jeopardize the functioning of an acute care emergency centre.

Aitchison recently met with the chair of the hospital board, MAHC CEO Natalie Bubela and staff to discuss the issue.

Aitchison says this letter is one step in dealing with the province’s funding model, which is the root of the issue.

Aitchison believes the funding model is one of the main reasons MAHC is dealing with a multi-million dollar shortfall.

Meanwhile, former councillor Tim Withey and former mayor Hugh Mackenzie have started a petition to speak against this option. The petition will be available to sign at many of the town’s buildings, doctors’ offices and pharmacies. Aitchison says they hope to send the letter and petition to MAHC, our MPP Norm Miller’s office and the Ministry of Health.
